I began to be fascinated by the work of Juliaan Lampens during my PhD years between Italy and Belgium, to the point of making it the subject of an ongoing research project. Among his works, the Van Wassenhove House remains particularly striking: a radical concrete dwelling that rethinks domestic space as a continuous, open landscape structured by a few precise structural gestures. The house has been widely recognised internationally, and was included by The New York Times among the most significant works of postwar architecture, confirming its status as a quiet yet powerful masterpiece of the late twentieth century.
